Who We Are:
Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is a national non-profit organization that provides free, daily after-school programs to over 72,000 children in need on nearly 350 school sites in 19 chapters across the U.S. Offering daily programs that combine academic, enrichment, and health and fitness activities, ASAS is responding to America’s high school dropout, youth obesity, student empowerment and economic crises.
ASAS launched programs in Philadelphia in October of 2014 and is currently operating in two schools under a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
What We Need:
Working directly with our students, Lead Educators (LEs) play a critical role in helping ASAS Philadelphia achieve its mission of providing comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life. LEs will be responsible for designing enrichment programming for middle school-aged students that furthers ASAS Philadelphia’s vision that our All-Stars are safe and healthy, graduate high school and go to college, find careers they love and then give back to their communities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to relate to and work well with diverse children and youth, an ability to facilitate participants’ learning of new knowledge and skills, and a commitment to learning, skill building and professionalism on the job. We are looking for educators with expertise in the following areas in particular:
•Chess
•Debate
•Drama
•Yoga
•Dance
•Nutrition
•STEAM programming including Science Olympiad, Lego League/robotics, and coding.
What You’ll Do:
•Design and conduct 12-week enrichment lessons for the fall, winter and spring sessions that incorporate academic content and skill development.
•Conduct hands-on and project-based activities that are motivating, challenging and engaging to middle-school youth and that allow participants to explore their personal interests and learn about their everyday world.
•Plan activities that celebrate the accomplishments of individual participants and the larger group and provide opportunities for participants to interact with community leaders, and contribute positively to their immediate and/or larger global community.
•Engage participants in assessing their own growth and in preparing for high school, college, careers and civic leadership.
•Support positive relationships among students and the ASAS community by maintaining a safe, welcoming environment.
•Work with an After-School Program Assistant and/or volunteers in conducting enrichment programming.
•Support After-School All-Star’s operational duties including keeping track of attendance, beginning and ending punctually, using email to communicate with program staff, and attending quarterly trainings on policies and procedures.
