Lead and Assistant Teaching Artists
DESCRIPTION:
Mural Arts Program’s Mural Corps is an after school and summer art education program that operates in 10 locations throughout the city of Philadelphia. This program is a rigorous mural painting and art education program for youth ages 14-21. The Lead Teaching Artist and Assistant Teaching Artist are mentors to the students, sharing their training and sensibility with youth working in teams of 12 students.. The program runs in three 10 week sessions, two days a week, after school, starting October 1, 2010 and through mid-June 2011. The summer session runs for 6 weeks, late June through mid-August 2011, five half days a week. The program is currently hiring for the winter, spring, and summer sessions. We are seeking both Lead and Assistant Teaching Artists.
ATTRIBUTES:
Applicants for both positions must have strong organizational and communication skills. Digital knowledge base including Gmail and associated applications is necessary and additional knowledge of other software platforms is useful. Other necessary skills include flexibility; creative problem solving; responding well to demands in a fast paced work environment; effective communication in multiple communities and contexts; and a passion about working with young people. Some lifting/moving of materials.
REQUIREMENTS:
Mural Corps Lead Teaching Artist: must have a degree in Art or Art Education, have some experience painting murals, teaching experience, possess strong leadership and classroom management skills, and a desire to work with teens. Lead instructors are also required to complete weekly reports, oversee youth paperwork and attend monthly meetings. Photoshop CS proficiency is REQUIRED.
Mural Corps Assistant Teaching Artist: willingness to assist lead instructor, have strong art background; mural making and teaching experience preferred. Photoshop CS proficiency is preferred. Monthly meetings required.
Lead Teaching Artist Salary: $25/hour
Assistant Teaching Artist: $15/hour
