Laura Bush Foundation Invites Applications From School Libraries
Deadline: December 30, 2006
The mission of the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries (<a href="http://www.laurabushfoundation.org/">http://www.laurabushfoundation.org/</a>) is to support the education of U.S. children by providing funds to update, extend, and diversify the book and print collections of America’s school libraries. The foundation seeks to provide books to school libraries and students that most need them. The foundation is a component fund of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (<a href="http://www.cfncr.org/">http://www.cfncr.org/</a>) in Washington, D.C.
The Laura Bush Foundation will make grants in amounts of up to $5,000 each to school libraries. All foundation grants are made to individual schools rather than to school districts, foundations, or other entities.
Because research demonstrates a clear relationship between family income and a student’s access to books, the LBF gives selection preference to schools in which 90 percent or more of the students receive free or reduced lunches and are likely to have few books at home.
Visit the foundation’s Web site for complete program information, an online application form, and an FAQ.
