Posted by on April 2, 2004
The Public School Notebook spring issue, with a focus on small schools, is now being distributed and should soon be available at all schools and our other distribution sites across the city.
Making Philadelphia’s schools smaller has emerged as a popular idea here, endorsed by community groups, politicians, and District officials alike. With the School District pursuing an ambitious $1.5 billion capital plan, it appears that forces have aligned in Philadelphia to physically transform dozens of schools. But whether the character of the city’s schools is transformed along with their appearance remains an open question – and student groups and community members here are trying to be at the table and make sure small schools are part of the answer. The spring issue of the Notebook looks at how the growing national movement for small schools in playing out in Philadelphia.
