The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, Volume 29, Issue 1 features four new articles speaking to a range of exciting research projects. In two separate case studies, Janke et. al examine the relationship between terms used to describe community-engaged scholarship at the institutional level and fair, accurate assessment of tenure and promotion policies. In addition, Cattaneo et. al explore how “uncomfortable emotions” such as guilt, anger, and overwhelm impacted students’ long-term community and political engagement in a justice-oriented service-learning class, and Bernadette Ludwig and Connie Campbell analyze the significance of effective integration of service learning hours with a West African refugee and immigrant community and resulting student support of curricular service learning.
