Position Summary: The Land Steward Fellow will support the Urban Tree Connection’s (UTC) Organizers in carrying out our community organizing strategies of social investigation (understanding neighborhood dynamics, history), basebuilding (recruitment of neighbors and key community group), and in fostering community engagement and participation at our gardens and parks. Further they will assess the long–term organizing capacity of key identified sites.
Role Expectations:
- Support Organizers in social investigation and base–building efforts including recruitment, attendance to community meetings, canvassing, garden tours/open hours, and UTC events and programming.
- Support Organizers in developing an accurate assessment of the short and long–term viability of membership development and organizing around food sovereignty and land justice at key sites.
- Build relationships with neighbors, community groups and volunteers. Work alongside them in upkeeping the natural beauty and maintenance of UTC’s community gardens and parks.
- Uphold UTC’s community agreements that foster a thoughtful, educational, kind and collective–work community space; ensure that neighbors feel welcome, engaged, and invested in the gardens.
- Participate in organizational meetings, events, programming, and assessments as appropriate.
- All other duties as assigned by the Organizer and Executive Director.
