Keep Kids Safe this summer
If you work with Philadelphia children ages 9-13 who have witnessed violence up close, there is a new, free opportunity for them to escape the city for several days at the Keep Kids Safe Summer Camp. Approximately 150 local youth will have the chance to escape the hot summer streets for a week of fun and personal development in a relaxing rural setting.
The six-day overnight camp is being held at Fellowship Farm in Pottstown. The Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia has provided support to this program of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC). Nu Sigma Youth Services, Inc. (NSYS) and the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network are managing day-to-day operations of the camp.
The 3 camp sessions run from Sunday through Friday; youth may attend one of these three sessions.
The dates are Sunday, July 29th to Friday, August 3rd; Sunday, August 5th to Friday, August 10th; Sunday, August 12th to Friday, August 17th.
In addition to the normal activities of summer camp – swimming, arts & crafts, hiking and sports – children who attend will also learn to deal with the violence that surrounds them in their neighborhoods.
Applications for the camp will NOT be mailed out. They are available at GPUAC offices or can be sent via e-mail. Interested families and youth should call Brandon Brown, Coordinator, at 215-851-1755 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.
