The 10th Annual Prevention and Outreach Summit
New Track on Trans and HIV!
Date: Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Location: The Pennsylvania Convention Center
Address: 12th and Arch Streets
The transgender population is one that is highly impacted by the HIV epidemic. In Philadelphia, recent studies have shown that 19% of adult Male-to-Female’s (MTF) self identified as being HIV-positive. Stigma, discrimination, and often inadequate care by providers not attuned to the needs of this specific population can create further barriers to reducing risky behaviors and staying healthy.
This year we are devoting an entire Track to the needs and concerns of Trans men and women.
1. Bringing the T to the Table: Transgender 101
2. Trans and Safer Sex
3. Sensitivity Training for Providers
4. Trans and Mental Health
5. The Trans Community and Sex Work
