Jubliee School to unveil mural

Posted by on April 16, 2004

First through sixth grade students of the Jubilee School in West Philadelphia have designed a mural in honor of the Harlem Renaissance. They have been engaged in a two-year study of the Harlem Renaissance visual artists, writers, poets, musicians and singers. `

During the month of May, students, parents and community volunteers will paint the mural on the school yard wall adjacent to the playground at 4211 Chester Avenue. For all interested parties, come on out and celebrate art & community!

If you would like to help paint – for an hour or two, or for the whole day – call or email me ahead of time to let me know when you can come. I will be at the mural site every Saturday and Sunday in May from 10:00 to 4:00, and on weekdays after 3:00.

A public dedication will be held on Saturday, June 5th.

If you would like a flyer or poster to post, let me know and I’ll get it to you. Please feel free to pass on this info to anyone you think might have an interest. For any more information, contact Karen Falcon, Director, Jubilee School, 4211 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Phone: 215-387-7592 Email: [email protected] . The project is funded in part by a grant from the 5-County Arts Fund.
