According to Harvard University research, two-thirds of the jobs created in the U.S. in the next year will require some postsecondary education, but of those, nearly half will go to people with occupational certificates or associate degrees. And, typically students who have pursued Career and Technical Education (CTE).
School districts throughout the state, including Philadelphia, have begun to reimagine career and technical education for a rapidly changing workforce, and Governor Wolf has prioritized career and technical education in his recent budgets, including continued funding in this year’s proposal for the PA Smart initiative, which emphasizes training-to-career programs and apprenticeship programs.
How has a renewed interested in technical education and training changed what CTE programs look like in 2019? And which students have access to those programs?
