AN INTRODUCTION TO SERVICE-LEARNING:
Theory and Practice in an Experiential Instructional Strategy
The Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) has created a three-credit (quarter system) college-level course that provides the student with a detailed understanding of the service-learning teaching strategy, including definitions, fundamental concepts, and best practices. The goal of “An Introduction to Service-Learning” is to enable the student to begin using service-learning in his or her own classroom or community.
“An Introduction to Service-Learning” is completely online, including streaming videos, lecture notes, assignments, tools, forms, discussion questions, and readings. Staff development can now take place virtually anytime, anywhere.
