Intersession Course on
Posted by on December 6, 2002
The second course with Charles Rojzman, well-known French activist, author, social psychologist, and international consultant to local governments and agencies, will begin on January 11-12 and January 17-19 (9 am to 5 pm). Please note that it carries a graduate/undergraduate number, and advanced undergraduates are also invited. The third long weekend will be decided by the whole class and will probably be in March or April. Students will apply what they have learned through project work (group or individual) between the two
segments of the course. New students may choose to participate in projects undertaken by students who took the summer 2002 course.
The course will take students through Rojzman?s unique approach to working with groups that are hostile to one another but yet must work together if they are to improve their circumstances. This approach, which he terms transformational social therapy, is a blend of social psychology, critical theory, political practice, group dynamics, and organizational development. Rojzman?s goal is not inter-group communication or group therapy. He maintains that when violence is transformed into conflict that is given voice through dialogue, people are able to engage in actions that will change the ?sickness? of a whole country. His process facilitates group formation around actions that address a common problem, and so engender social change.
