History and Mission
NSC is a non-profit organization that provides social, educational, and legal services to immigrants and refugees in the greater Philadelphia area. Our strength lies in the diversity of our clients and services. Since NSC’s founding in 1921, our mission has been to help immigrants and refugees participate fully in American society. Each year we help approximately 4,000 individuals from over 90 countries.
Position Overview
The Interpretation and Translation Manager will oversee the delivery of interpretation and translation services to non-profits, private companies and individuals, government agencies, and medical organizations in the greater Philadelphia area. The Manager will plan and implement a strategy for marketing NSC’s interpretation and translation services, expanding our client base, developing quality control standards, and increasing revenue. The Manager will work closely with the program coordinator to recruit, screen, and contract with qualified translation and interpretation professionals, manage client relations, and assure correct billing and on-going quality assurance and customer service activities for the program.
Job Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a plan for marketing and expansion of NSC’s interpretation and translation services, including bringing about an increase in revenues generated by these services.
• Manage the recruitment, selection, and contracting process to identify appropriate interpretation and translation staff.
• Review candidate resumes, conduct interviews, verify credentials, and conduct appropriate background screening of interpretation and translation candidates.
• Perform quality assurance activities through on-going follow-up with vendors and clients.
• Oversee client billing and the scheduling of translators and interpreters.
Reporting Relationships
The Interpretation and Translation Manager will report directly to the Executive Director, supervise the Coordinator and any other program staff, and participate in department activities as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
The most important qualifications for the Manager position include strong initiative, social-entrepreneurial drive, and capacity to develop client relationships; focused, outgoing and self-starting work style; the ability to simultaneously manage longer-term aspects of work as well as more immediate, shorter-term details; an understanding of NSC’s goals and objectives and ability to work and contribute as part of a larger team; strong knowledge of available interpretation/translation-related resources in and around NSC’s service area and related resources, trainings, and certifications; and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks by carefully setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and scheduling time efficiently.
Other qualifications include the ability to use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and customized databases; strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with individuals and groups.
Experience and Education
Minimum Experience: 2-4 years of experience coordinating translation and interpretation related programs and activities, or other similar social entrepreneurship work. Experience in marketing, sales and customer service role preferred. Bi-lingual skills preferred.
Minimum Education: BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in a related field of study is preferred.
