Internship Opportunity for College Students at FreePlay on Parkway
Unique opportunity for students looking to earn credits this summer.
About FreePlay on The Parkway:
FreePlay on The Parkway is located on Ben Franklin Parkway between 21st & 22nd Streets. It is the 1st pocket park created by Play Inbetween, a non-profit organization that fills underutilized City spaces with creative and contemporary pocket parks.
FreePlay on The Parkway features Philadelphia’s only eight-sided public sand box, a cast concrete Ping Pong table, Imagination Playground in Blocks, and free activities from local educational and cultural organizations for both children and adults.
Job Title: Play Associate
Job Responsibilities:
-Responsible for opening and closing FreePlay and all of the play components, ensuring the working conditions of each.
– Manage the daily operations of FreePlay.
-Engage with children, guiding them in their play. Play Associate will need to review the Imagination Playground play guideline video, and run FreePlay accordingly.
-Greet and connect with visitors, parents, and caregivers, representing the Play Inbetween organization.
-Initiate and develop craft projects, chess games, checkers, etc. for kids who choose not to play with blocks or sand. Play Inbetween will provide all supplies.
-Host the additional activities that are produced at FreePlay, welcoming and assisting the various local cultural and educational institutions that come to the site.
-Ascertain and interpret overall feedback of each additional activity, taking notes on how each activity could be improved to better entertain and engage visitors.
-Maintain daily visitor records, taking notes throughout the day, and informing management of all visitor feedback.
-Confer with managers to discuss and resolve visitor suggestions/complaints.
-Enforce rules and regulations of FreePlay to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
-Oversee upkeep of FreePlay.
-Perform related work as required.
Qualifications needed:
– Ideal candidate would be a student, majoring in Education, Communications, or Public Policy.
– Candidate must like children of all ages, and see the importance of play in kids’ education.
-Friendly, outgoing, energetic and engaging
-Responsible
-Comfortable with light physical labor and working outdoors.
FreePlay on The Parkway hours: Tues.-Sun., 10:00am – 6:00pm
Hours of Job: 20-40 hours/week
