International Service-Learning Workshop
Engaging the World: Developing a Campus-Wide Approach to International Service-Learning
March 1-2, 2006
Sponsors: The International Partnership for Service-Learning and Leadership in collaboration with Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis
The workshop is structured for institutional teams of faculty and administrators from colleges and universities to develop campus plans for international service-learning programs and courses for their students. In order to gain maximum benefit from participating in the workshop, team members should include key leaders and campus administrators from study-abroad programs, international affairs, and service-learning programs as well as key faculty members.
Plenary and breakout sessions will focus on essential elements in constructing and operating international servicelearning courses and programs abroad. Proposed topics include:
* Developing a strategic plan for the campus/broadening the civic engagement mission from local to global
* Defining and organizing international partnerships
* Curriculum design, including reflection, for international service-learning courses
* Legal, visa and other administrative challenges
* Uses of technology for orientation, reflection, program development
* Cross-cultural issues
* Scholarships and Financial Aid
* Programs for graduate and professional students
* Faculty development strategies
* Developing programs in particular world regions
* Engaging the disciplines
Dates: The workshop will begin on Wednesday early afternoon, March 1, 2006 and conclude mid-afternoon on Thursday, March 2, 2006.
Costs:
Early Bird: $100 per person (includes one lunch, two breaks, and materials)
After Feb. 1st: $120 per person
