Michigan Campus Compact will hold its 8th annual Institute on Service-Learning “Inspiring Citizenship through Service-Learning” February 5-6, 2004 on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Co-sponsored by the Michigan Community Service Commission, the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, Hope College, Grand Rapids Community College, Calvin College, Grand Valley State University, and State Farm Insurance, the institute will draw more than 300 faculty and staff from both higher education and K-12 schools around the state and nation.
This year’s institute is shaping up to be one of the best. Confirmed keynote speakers include Dr. Brian O’Connell, author of Civil Society: Underpinnings of American Society and Liz Hollander, Executive Director of National Campus Compact. A special and separate youth track is being developed for 9th grade-college students with keynote speaker Jamaal Young, service-learning advocate and recent Georgetown University graduate. The institute planning committee has selected nine dynamic preconference sessions which will take place February 5th, and 30 concurrent sessions which will take place February 6th. A special reception will be held Thursday evening to highlight the Johnson Center and this year’s MCC faculty/staff award winners.
Registration information is now available online at: http://www.micampuscompact.org/institute04.html. Check out detailed information on the preconference sessions, schedule, and accommodations. Register by January 9, 2004 and receive the Early Bird Discounted Rate!
