Education for Sustainability Workshop in Peru
June 24th – July 6th, 2012
The Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research (ACEER) invites applications for a 12-day Institute for Emerging Sustainability Leaders in Peru scheduled for June 24 – July 6, 2012. The theme for this inaugural year is Education for Sustainability. This study tour is open to students, educators, and professionals in the field of education for sustainability as well as individuals interested in developing a more planetary perspective on the challenge of educating for sustainability. Up to 15 North Americans will be selected to participate. Application letters should be submitted via e-mail by Friday, February 24th to Dr. Paul Morgan (pmorgan@wcupa.edu). Your email should briefly:
explain why you want to participate in the Institute for Emerging Sustainability Leaders
list knowledge, skills, work, and course experiences related to this year’s theme: education for sustainability
address your degree of understanding and interest in sustainability and/or sustainable development
Selected participants will be notified by Thursday, March 1st and will have until March 24th to complete the registration form and submit a $500 deposit. The final balance will be due no later than April 24, 2012. The cost of the trip is $2,450 from Lima (double occupancy). A number of partial of scholarships should be available for applicants based on need.

The Institute for Emerging Sustainability Leaders recruits participants from North and South America and then engages them in an immersive experience in the Peruvian Andes and the rainforest of the Amazon basin. The ACEER Institute for Emerging Sustainability Leaders provides
– an experiential learning opportunity designed to ground participants in the reality outside the bubble of affluence and distraction
– access to in-country leaders working at the grassroots and governmental levels
– an opportunity to form personal and professional relationships with peers in North and South America
– a context in which to form a genuinely planetary perspective on the most pressing conservation and sustainability challenges
– opportunities to strengthen our passion for and interest in the natural world
– support and encouragement to scale-up participants’ own programs and initiatives
– follow-up connections and experiences to help participants stay grounded, committed, and to . . . Bring the Amazon home
