Information Technology Specialist
Girard College is a Boarding School for academically capable students, grades 1 through 12, from families with limited financial resources each headed by a single parent or guardian. The information technology technician will provide maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services for our schools, residences and administrative offices, which function in a dual-platform (PC and MAC) environment. In addition to technical knowledge and ability, this professional understands the special needs of the educational/classroom environment and is able to work well with other technology staff, external consultants and the school community.
Responsibilities:
Maintains, repairs and troubleshoots problems in the IT system.
Installs hardware (PCs, printers, servers, switches).
Installs software packages (PC updates, server upgrades, security patches and new programs) and provides desktop software support.
Provides support for the thin client system, which deploys server-based educational software.
Troubleshoots technical problems and supports the staff’s technology needs at all levels by monitoring and managing the helpdesk.
Investigates, evaluates and, as appropriate, recommends the use, purchase, and upgrade of equipment, both hardware and software, for the campus community.
Works collaboratively with technology consultants, contractors and staff on projects and assignments.
Maintains and rotates, if necessary, technology inventory throughout the campus.
Leads the planning and conducting of appropriate staff development activities.
Stays current with advances in the field by attending technical workshops and conferences as directed.
Works collaboratively with educators and other technical personnel to optimize educational tools with audio-visual and digital interfaces.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
College degree in computer science, information technology or related field is required education.
Minimum five years workplace experience in a job requiring hands-on work with Windows NT/2000/2003 Servers, XP Workstations, and Ethernet Networks.
Network support / working knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, Fiber, use of Windows scripting, and network printer configurations.
Working knowledge of Active Directory.
Knowledge of Network Anti-Virus Software (Norton, McAfee).
Working knowledge of managed switches, routers and firewalls.
Basic knowledge of IP Routing and VLAN’s.
Knowledge of network backup systems.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, work on hands and knees, and climb stairs.
