Independent Sector Invites Nominations for American Express NGen Leadership Award
Deadline: May 13, 2011 (Online Nomination Form)
Sponsored by American Express and Independent Sector, the American Express NGen Leadership Award honors one accomplished U.S. nonprofit leader age 40 or younger who has demonstrated significant impact in addressing society’s critical needs.
The awards program invites nominations of leaders who demonstrate transformative impact in their field beyond just their organization; display a proven ability to collaborate in innovative, inclusive ways; identify needs, generate solutions, and assess progress toward their goals; are currently employed by a U.S.-based nonprofit or nongovernmental organization; and will be age 40 (or younger) at the time of receiving the award.
To be honored with the award, an individual must be available to participate in the virtual leadership forum on July 13, 2011, and must be present at the John W. Gardner Leadership Dinner, which will be held at Independent Sector’s annual conference in Chicago on October 31, 2011.
The awardee will receive a $3,000 scholarship to further develop his or her leadership skills and strategies; complementary registration to the IS annual conference (October 30 to November 1, 2011); scholarship admission to NGen: Moving Nonprofit Leaders from Next to Now October 29 and 30, just prior to the IS 2011 conference); membership on the 2012 American Express NGen Award Selection Committee; recognition on the IS Web site as well as in a press release, IS member publications, and the 2011 IS annual conference program; and round-trip airfare and lodging to and at the IS conference.
Anyone may submit a nomination. Self-nominations will not be considered.
Award finalists and the award recipient will be chosen through a multi-stage nomination and application process. Nominees will be evaluated at each stage by a committee comprised of accomplished nonprofit and philanthropic leaders. Award finalists will be asked to demonstrate transformative impact and speak clearly to their core values as a leader. They also will be asked to participate in a virtual leadership forum with the NGen community to discuss issues of import to young leaders and the nonprofit community as a whole.
