Independent Sector Invites Applications for American Express NGen Fellows Program
Deadline: February 27, 2012
An initiative of Independent Sector, the American Express NGen Fellows Program is a selective fellowship opportunity designed to cultivate leadership among twelve leaders age 40 and under at IS member organizations.
Over the course of the nine-month program, participating fellows collaborate with other talented emerging leaders, interact with established mentors, and contribute to Independent Sector’s work on nonprofit impact and leadership.
The program includes leadership development programming that focuses on building self-awareness and learning to exercise leadership to confront adaptive challenges; networking and learning opportunities within the fellows cohort, with other NGen leaders, and with established sector leaders; substantive collaboration on a group-led project that engages emerging nonprofit and philanthropic leaders in moving the needle on sector-wide issues; and recognition of contributions, both individually and as a group.
The program includes three in-person events — fellows’ meetings at the beginning and conclusion of the program at the IS offices in Washington, D.C., and programs for fellows at the 2012 IS Annual Conference in San Francisco (November 9 to 12). Outside of the in-person events, participation in the project will take the form of conference calls and online collaboration, with a time commitment of roughly five hours per month. The fellowship will run from August 1, 2012, to April 30, 2013.
Selected fellows will be required to arrange for their own travel and lodging for the Washington, D.C., events. A small travel stipend may be provided for out-of-state fellows as needed. Fellows will receive free registration and lodging at the 2012 IS Annual Conference and NGen pre-conference events in San Francisco.
Visit the Independent Sector Web site for complete program information, selection criteria, and application procedures.
