Increasing comprehension through media literacy skills – Aug 3
Posted by Urban Media Literacy on July 9, 2019
In a 10 week time period, Urban Media Literacy used our media literacy curriculum to increase the ELA reading scores of a group of 40 students. Most of the students were reading two or more levels below grade on their first assessment. On their second assessment, the group had an overall ELA reading score improvement of 150%. Some students reading scores jumped 3 grade levels in 10 weeks. All the students in the group improved in some area of reading comprehension.
Urban Media Literacy focuses on building the community via education. Better educated youth help to strengthen the community by making better career and life choices. Building comprehension skills is key. Our media literacy curriculum is designed to benefit the learner in the classroom and in the real world.
