A Promising Connection: Increasing College Access and Success Through Civic Engagement

Thursday, December 2, 2010  1:00-2:00 PM (EST)

WEBINAR OVERVIEW:
Campus Compact recently hosted a national Presidential Leadership Summit and released a new white paper about the potential for community/campus civic engagement to enhance student access to and success in college.  During the webinar, two of the authors will summarize their findings in, A Promising Connection, including the current relevance, research, and several effective program models across the country.  The authors will share five essential areas in which higher education leaders can use their influence to create a culture of engagement that will benefit students, faculty, and communities alike.  Participants will also hear how college presidents responded to the white paper at the national Presidents Leadership Summit on October 24, 2010 and what they can do to engage others in this important conversation.

FACILITATORS:
Christine M. Cress, PhD, is department chair of educational leadership and policy, and professor of postsecondary, adult, and continuing education (PACE) at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, where she developed a master’s degree specialization and graduate certificate in service-learning and community engagement.
