Humane Society of the United States Announce Education Mini-Grant Program
Deadline: November 30, 2011
The Humane Society of the United States is accepting applications for its new Humane Education Mini-Grant program, which funds innovative humane education projects in K-12 classrooms.
The purpose of the program is to provide funds for classroom teachers who lead innovative, standards-based programs and curricula in humane education, specifically the teaching of kindness and respect for animals and their natural habitats. Funded projects should engage students in hands-on activities that lead to the acquisition of new knowledge, awareness, and self-discovery as they relate to humane education. The mini-grant may be used to pay for supplies or materials necessary for students to create a product, conduct an experiment, or learn a new skill through service-learning and community outreach.
Applications will be judged according to a rubric that emphasizes humane education components, innovation, clarity of objectives, standards-based work, possible service-learning components, replication feasibility, evaluation methods, and cost effectiveness.
All certified K-12 teachers in the United States are eligible to apply for the grant. Applicants must be U.S. residents.
A maximum of $1,000 will be awarded for each classroom project. The number of grants awarded will vary from year to year, depending on the total amount requested by applicants. Typically, one or two grants will be awarded each year.
Visit the Humane Society Web site for complete program guidelines and the application form.
