General Description:

The Human Resources Specialist assists administration in managing employee relations and development. Provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Identify staff vacancies
Recruit by advertising in-house, in the NSCA community, online and through other non-profit organizations
Set up interviews for applicants approved by Executive Director, Program Director and/or Program Manager. (Make sure if a Board member and/or a parent, from the parent policy committee, has to attend interviews one is available.)
Have interview packets ready for interviews
Follow up on applicants who the interview committee is interested in by:
Verifying education
Reference checks
Verifying past employment
Developing, administering and evaluating applicant tests (as needed)
Follow up on hiring procedures, such as:
New Employee Packets
Hire letters
Salary verification
Email accessibility (as needed)
Child Abuse, Criminal, & FBI Clearances
Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits
Following up on Due Clearances and Health Assessments
Report and investigate injuries/accidents for insurance carriers (workers Compensation)
Follow up with employees at six months for evaluations and benefits
Administer and explain benefits to employees, serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers.
Employee relations
Maintain human resource data bases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
Research Federal and Local employment laws to keep current
Complete forms for Unemployment, Welfare and Social Security
Cover front Switch-board when necessary
Other duties as assigned by Executive Director

Qualifications:

Strong verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English
Minimum of two years administrative experience
Strong skills in word-processing and computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and outlook)

Ability to work independently and with initiative, and complete work in a timely manner
Ability to make sound and on the spot decisions
Commitment to community empowerment
Detail Oriented
Able to multitask
Demonstrated ability to work with people of different racial, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
Minimum of a High School Diploma
Prior HR experience preferred
