Hip-Hop Event & Concert For Philadelphia Freedom School

The Friends Neighborhood Guild will hold a Hip-Hop Event to benefit its Philadelphia Freedom School program on Thursday evening, April 27th at 6:00 pm. Invited local musicians include GRANDSUNN and MIGHTY FLIPSIDE ESQ., DJ AMBUSH, KWAMI ANDAH, and KABAR. More artists are being added all the time! There will also be a break dance workshop by PANOMY INN, a gallery show and sale of work by local artists including JOSHUA MAYS and ROBERT MATUNDA, as well as light refreshments and artisan vendors.

The Friends Neighborhood Guild Freedom School is part of a Philadelphia network of free summer academic enrichment programs for children ages 6 to 14. The program focuses on literacy, social justice, and cultural pride while establishing a love for learning. ?We wanted to design an event that would attract young people, professionals, teachers, nonprofit workers, and students.? said Felicia Coward, Executive Director of the Guild. ?We want to empower them to be donors and leaders, and to recognize the importance of programs like Freedom School.?

All are welcome. A minimum donation of $15 per person will be collected at the door. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and guests can enter at 735 Fairmount Avenue, near the intersection of 8th Street and Fairmount Avenue. Youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Friends Neighborhood Guild is a 125 year old multi-services community center located at 8th and Fairmont Avenues in lower North Philadelphia. Since its founding it has been committed to meeting the needs of people in its immediate neighborhood, particularly those less able to help themselves.
