The Healthcare Coordinator is required to:

Healthcare Education Operations:

o Organize the screening and selection process for 30-40 students each year to participate in the healthcare vocational program. Specific responsibilities for determining student eligibility for the healthcare program include—

– verifying applicants’ minimum reading and mathematics skills as measured by the Test of Basic Adult Education (TABE)

– Interviewing applicants for motivation to earn a CNA or HHA certificate and additional healthcare credentials

– securing appropriate criminal background clearances

– ensuring that applicants receive physical examinations

o Set high expectations for students

o Establish a positive rapport with students

o Train students in skills needed to pass the PA CNA or HHA examinations, complete required coursework, and prepare for a career in the healthcare industry

o Supervise students during off-site CNA training and other program components

o Closely monitor and track students’ progress with course instructors

o Conduct regular site visits to students’ internship placements and off-site training facilities to support student learning and engagement

o Possess knowledge of healthcare industry as well as skills needed for a successful career in the field

o Demonstrate strong pedagogy and effective classroom management.

Healthcare Leadership:

o Model professional behavior for students at all times

o Maintain effective partnerships with off-site training agencies

o Establish and maintain relationships with partners who can provide internship placements and educational opportunities for students upon completion of CNA or HHA coursework

o Work in-house with Transition Services Department personnel in placing students in full-time positions or post-secondary education placements after graduation

o Assist in program development and coordinate operational and material needs of the Healthcare program.

Program Involvement

o Attend community service projects in keeping with the school’s strong service- learning emphasis

o Participate in the school’s mentoring program

o Participate in one or more extra curricular activities.

Professional Development:

o Maintain knowledge of trends related to nursing and other healthcare-related opportunities for out-of-school youth

o Continue to develop professional skills through trainings and professional development opportunities

o Attend all meetings retreats, workshops, and conferences as required by the Director of Vocational Programming

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Vocational Programming

Qualifications
YouthBuild Philadelphia requires the following qualifications:

o Bachelor’s degree

o Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances

o Experience in the healthcare field with, at minimum, nursing assistant certification (CNA)

o Teaching experience

o Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved youth

o Excellent project planning and organizational skills

o Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills

YouthBuild Philadelphia prefers the following qualifications:

o Medical assistant certification (CMA) or nursing degree (RN or LPN)

o Experience teaching in an urban setting.
