Health Programs Coordinator, Full-Time

The African Family Health Organization (AFAHO), a community-based, non-profit organization serving African and Caribbean immigrants and refugees in the greater Philadelphia area is seeking a Health Programs Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of culturally appropriate health services to our target population.  The successful candidate will be a team player who is highly organized; comfortable working in a multi-cultural environment; adept at initiative taking; flexible; excellent writer; good facilitation and public speaking skills; self-motivated and responsive to deadlines. This position represents a blending of both programmatic/hands-on project skills and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage African and Caribbean immigrant/refugee community members, partner organizations, institutions and advocates around relevant health issues
  • Conduct stakeholder outreach to initiate new and maintain existing partnerships with external agencies/individuals
  • Develop, identify, and/or adapt appropriate curricula, educational activities, and counseling models for use during educational activities
  • Establish goals for programs and projects and develop timelines and activities/tasks for achieving them
  • Facilitate health education activities during workshop presentations, health forums and other venues as needed
  • Update program related information for organization’s website and social media sites
  • Complete and submit monthly, quarterly and annual data and narrative reporting for programs
  • Organize, coordinate and facilitate program and organizational related events
  • Supervise program staff and relevant interns/volunteers
  • Assist in preparing grant proposals
  • Submit invoices, receipts and other financials for program related events
  • Conduct evaluation activities to ensure programs meets program and community expectations;
  • Manage multiple projects by carefully setting priorities, meeting deadlines, working effectively with others and scheduling time efficiently
  • Assist in facilitating staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals
  • Represent AFAHO during program related meetings, coalitions, events, conferences and other forums
  • Completes special projects specific to the function of the programs or as needed for the organization
  • Ensure proper documentation of program related activities and storage of program files
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations
  • Some evening and week-end work required

Skills/Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health required
  • One to two years public health work experience preferred
  • Some program coordinating and supervisory experience desirable
  • Excellent oral, group facilitation, and written communication skills
  • Grant writing and reporting experience desirable
  • Understanding and support of AFAHO’s mission and core programs
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to effectively, professionally and compassionately interact with diverse co-workers, clients, community members and external contacts as well as a strong commitment to supporting the collective efforts of the team in accomplishing program objectives and goals
  • Flexibility and adaptability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to effectively use standard office equipment and a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and customized databases
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills

Schedule: Full-Time -40 hours a week. Flexible and primarily during business hours. Some week-end and evening work required.
