Invest Health Invites Applications for Health Leadership Initiative
Invest Health, a collaboration between Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Reinvestment Fund, is a new initiative that brings together diverse leaders from mid-sized U.S. cities across the nation to develop new strategies for increasing and leveraging private and public investments aimed at accelerating improvements in neighborhoods facing the biggest barriers to better health.
The initiative was developed to provide an opportunity for mid-sized cities to transform the way local leaders work together to create solution-driven and diverse partnerships. Such partnerships should emphasize making changes in low-income neighborhoods aimed at improving the health and well-being of residents. These changes can focus on increasing access to quality jobs, affordable housing, and nutritious food, as well as reducing crime rates and environmental hazards.
Teams from mid-sized cities (i.e., with populations between 50,000 and 400,000) across the United States or its territories are invited to apply. Up to fifty cities will be selected to receive a grant award of up to $60,000, along with access to highly skilled faculty advisors and coaches, an invitation to participate in a series of colloquia designed to provide substantial guidance, and participation in a vibrant professional learning community. To be eligible, teams from each applicant city must include five cross-sector leaders representing, at a minimum, the public sector, community development/finance, and an academic or health-related anchor institution. The remaining team members should be drawn from sectors appropriate to the challenge the team seeks to address.
Invest Health grants are restricted to seven hundred and fifty-six cities in the U.S. (excepting Hawaii and Vermont). Tribal communities and counties that are not themselves a municipality, or that comprise multiple incorporated areas, are not eligible to apply for a grant.
Invest Health will be holding live informational webinars to discuss details about the application process and answer questions on January 7, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. (EST) and January 14 at 12:00 p.m. (EST). Registration is required to participate in the sessions.
Letters of Intent must be received no later than January 29, 2016. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by March 31, 2016.
Visit the Invest Health website for complete program guidelines, including a list of eligible cities, webinar registration instructions, and application procedures.
