National Network of Libraries of Medicine Accepting Applications for Health Information Outreach Award
The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, a unit of the National Institutes of Health, welcomes applications to its Health Information Outreach Award program, which supports the mission of NNLM to provide U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improve the public’s access to information that helps them make informed decisions about their health.
The purpose of the program is to fund education and outreach projects that improve access to biomedical/health information and increase the ability of the public and health professionals to use these resources. Projects should emphasize resources produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Examples of projects eligible for an award include implementation of one or more health “Programs in a Box” at a public library or community-based organization; the development of a clinic-led health information outreach plan that includes presentations and site visits; the integration of NLM resources into formal continuing education curricula; the promotion of health sciences librarianship as a career to K-12, college; or graduate students; hosting an NLM traveling or online exhibit and programming an event using the materials to promote information resources from the NLM; conducting promotional activities (e.g., health fairs, exhibits and demonstrations) to increase awareness of NLM information resources to the target population; or planning and hosting a regional symposium on health literacy, digital literacy and/or NLM/NIH priorities.
Up to $20,000 per award will be made available to five or more NNLM member organizations within the mid-Atlantic Region (Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania) for the funding period that runs from May 15, 2020, to Friday, April 30, 2021. NNLM membership is free and open to any organization that provides or promotes health information. If an institution is not an NNLM member, it must submit an application for membership at least three weeks prior to the funding deadline. Membership is not automatic.
The deadline for applications is Friday, April 10, at 12:00 p.m.
Applications will only be accepted via the NNLM Online Applications System. Applicants are strongly encouraged to use the Outreach application template before entering information into the online system.
