Harcum College: POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of SSS (Student Support Services)/ Counselor
Classification: Administrative/ Professional, Full Time, Exempt Reporting Structure: Director of Grant Funded Programs, Director of Counseling ? for daily counseling activities
POSITION SUMMARY
Identify, assess and select SSS students. Provide direct service to SSS program participants. Must contribute significant writing to the SSS grant proposal. Teach student success course.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Identify, interview and evaluate entering SSS students.
? Assist in preparation of the TRIO Student Support Services grants.
? Contribute significantly to the writing of the SSS grant proposal.
? Assist with annual performance and additional reports to the US Department of Education as required.
? Participate in prescribed staff development programs for TRIO Personnel.
? Coordinate testing and placement of entering students in developmental courses and determine academic need/ eligibility for SSS program.
? Conduct needs assessment of students with disabilities.
? Review SSS students? course selection and make recommendations for appropriate interventions.
? Meet with SSS students in an on-going counseling relationship; available for individual sessions on drop-in or scheduled basis.
? Provide individual career planning/ educational counseling.
? Counsel students on personal budgets and financial planning as well as elementary financial aid concerns.
? Plan and teach student success courses for project participants.
? Monitor SSS students? academic progress as it relates to academic policies and requirements.
? Refer students for tutorial assistance.
? With Act 101 counselor, hire, train, and supervise peer mentor group.
? Serve as liaison to faculty regarding students with special needs, e.g., learning disabilities, emotional problems.
? Advocate for students with other College offices.
? Plan staff development programs and SSS student functions with the Project Director.
? Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training sessions.
? Attend College meetings and serve on College committees.
? Keep up-to-date and accurate counseling records for SSS students.
? Provide monthly reports of counseling services and other activities to the Project Director and Director of Counseling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: M.Ed. in counseling or related field or M.S.W.
Experience: Minimum of two years counseling in higher education or community setting.
Skills: Inter-personal communication; Presentation skills
Cert. License: N/A
Other Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Computer skills; Organizational skills; Workshop Design skills
WORK SCHEDULE:
35 hours, on-call responsibilities, some nights and weekends as needed.
Salary Range: $32,000-$34,000 (depending on grant writing experience)
