New Guide Offers Concrete Steps for Combating Undermatching
Undermatching remains a hot topic among both researchers and practitioners in the college access field. A new report from MDRC titled “In Search of a Match: a Guide for Helping Students Make Informed College Choices,” bills itself as a guide “designed for counselors, teachers, and advisers who work with high school students from low-income families and with students who are the first in their families to pursue a college education.” The report is not a theoretical piece but instead rooted in practical insight. Much of that insight comes from MDRC’s College Math Program, which was “codeveloped with a number of partners and implemented in eight Chicago public schools and, later, in two New York City public schools.”
