Grow Your Community
Saturday May 4, 2002,
10:00am-12:30pm***
Kailo Mantua Arts Center, West Philly
Have you ever helped an elderly neighbor mow her lawn, or picked up trash that someone else littered? Have you ever volunteered for a Neighbors in Action clean-up or another anti-blight project?
Then you sound like you are ready to take your concern about your neighborhood to the next level! Hear from participants of all ages who?ve pitched in and sparked a community revitalization revolution, and discover ways to become an agent in the urban renewal movement!
Ralph Fox, co-founder of Philadelphia Cares and Producer & Host of Studio 57, will moderate our distinguished panel of speakers: Pat Lyons, Kailo Mantua Art Center?s founding Director; Jennifer Powell-Folks, former Philadelphia Cares Program Director and Frankford community activist; and Jose Rivera, President of the Fairmount Civic Association.
***Afterwards, we will re-energize with lunch and then put our money where our mouths are, getting right to work improving the neighborhood surrounding the center from 1:30-3:00pm!
We plan to carry the momentum forward with us to the next site for Grow Your Community, Part II, to be determined by the class participants on May 4th. So, bring your gang from your neighborhood and lobby the group to consider your neighborhood as the right place for our next gathering!
