GROW YOUR BENEFITS @ GREENSGROW FARMS
May 19 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
May 18 @ 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Greensgrow West
Did you know that SNAP recipients can use EBT benefits to purchase food-producing plants and seeds? On May 18th and May 19th, Greensgrow is hosting a Grow Your Benefits Event!
Greensgrow and the Food Trust invite you to learn about gardening on a budget and how SNAP benefits can get you started! Get all the information you need to start using your SNAP benefits to buy seed starts, plant your own garden, and harvest fresh produce from your backyard! Greensgrow is proud to be the only garden center in Philadelphia that can accept EBT. They’ll be selling a large variety of food-producing seeds and plants such as arugula seeds, tomato starts, lemon trees, basil plants, and more. Their staff experts will be on hand to answer questions and give tips on the best plants to grow for your space.
The event will also include free gardening workshops, cooking demonstrations, tours of the garden, and a big farmstand full of affordable, local produce! Did you know that Greensgrow accepts SNAP/EBT Access Card at their farmstand and that you can receive a Philly Food Buck coupon worth $2.00 for every $5.00 spent using your EBT Card? Find out more about how Greensgrow’s SNAP Share program and The Food Trust’s Philly Food Bucks can connect you to great affordable local produce in Philadelphia.
Other local community organizations will be there so you can learn more about how to stretch your benefits and grow your own food! Hear from the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and Art-Reach about how to stretch your benefits and use your EBT Access card to gain admission to museums for just $2.00. Plus Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will be there to answer more of your pressing gardening questions and to conduct free lead soil screening. You read that right — bring a sample of your soil to the event and get it screened for lead for free!
This event will be a great opportunity for SNAP recipients and other low income members of the community who are interested in growing their own food and/or gaining greater access to fresh and affordable local produce to learn more about how Greensgrow and other local community organizations can support them.
The first day of the event will take place on Friday, May 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Greensgrow West located at 5123 Baltimore Avenue in West Philadelphia (accessible by the 34 Trolley and 52 Bus).
The second day of the event will take place on Saturday, May 19th from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at Greensgrow Farms located at 2501 East Cumberland Street in Kensington (accessible by the MFL and the 25, 43, and 39 Bus).
