Grounded in Philly Launch Party

Posted by on June 24, 2013

Philadelphians are coming together to turn vacant lots into productive community spaces!

Healthy Foods Green Spaces is a constituent-led coalition that magnifies the voice of Philly’s urban agriculture and green space community. The coalition convenes individuals and groups around advocacy campaigns for urban agriculture and open space.

Grounded in Philly is a web mapping tool that makes data on vacant land accessible and provides opportunities for neighbors to organize around vacant lots. Grounded in Philly also makes legal resources
available so that neighbors can use and secure vacant lots for community spaces. This tool was created through a partnership between the Garden Legal Justice Initiative at the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia and 596 Acres in Brooklyn, NY.

Please help us celebrate the official launch of both the coalition and Grounded in Philly and find out how to get involved. All are welcome. Join us for this gathering of gardeners, farmers and activists and
enjoy a youth market, hear from community speakers and savor delicious treats on a beautiful urban farm!

We will stand with labor and affordable housing advocates and announce our support for a fair, transparent and accountable land bank; launch a web mapping and organizing tool that will help neighbors connect with each other and vacant land on their block; and we will gather new members and momentum towards long-term city-wide support for community-managed gardens, farms and open space.
