Green Your School Workshop
Energize Your Programs with Student Engagement!
The Bucks-Montgomery Branch of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council will bring together students, teachers, facility managers, administrators, and parents who are both currently involved with, as well as those interested in starting initiatives to make K-12 schools more energy efficient and increase positive environmental and health impacts while generating financial savings for their districts at the same time!
The workshop will include presentations on proven, student-led energy , resource conservation and other environmental and wellness programs in schools. It will highlight a variety of compelling success stories from schools including some energy programs that have resulted in a reduction in energy usage of 12-35% achieved solely through education and conservation measures. These reductions can translate into significant savings — more than $300,000 in some school districts!
The workshop will feature:
• An introduction to the US Department of Education’s “Green Ribbon Schools” program.
• Successful practices for building in-school campaigns, aimed at educating and engaging students and teachers in programs that address the impacts of their building on their environment and health.
• Hands-on marketing and communication tools such as graphic arts to bring about behavioral changes that drive conservation and other green school initiatives.
Following the workshop, schools will have the opportunity to submit proposals for projects or initiatives in their school and be provided with an EarthForce volunteer to assist with implementation.
