Impact Fund invites applications to advance social justice

Founded in 1992, the Impact Fund provides grants, advocacy, and education to support impact litigation on behalf of communities seeking economic, environmental, racial, and social justice.

Grants of up to $50,000 (averaging around $20,000) will be awarded to support nonprofit organizations, solo practitioners, or small legal firms that are involved in a public interest impact lawsuit and working to achieve a systemic solution to an economic, environmental, racial, and/or social injustice. Most cases funded are class actions, but the organization also funds other types of cases that could affect a significant number of people, such as multi-plaintiff cases, challenges to the constitutionality of laws or ordinances, and environmental reviews. Cases generally funded aim to confront an ongoing injustice and seek future-facing relief, rather than cases that solely seek accountability for past harm.

Impact Fund grants may be used for out-of-pocket litigation expenses such as expert witness fees and costs, discovery-related costs, deposition transcripts, records fees, filing fees, witness fees, scientific analysis, court reporter fees, interpreters, visual materials, class notice costs, mediation fees, and attorney and staff travel costs.

Letters of interest must be received no later than April 9, 2024, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application due May 7, 2024.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Impact Fund website.

Deadline: April 9, 2024 (Letters of Interest)
