Grants for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Programs

Each year SPEC announces the application period open for interested organizations to apply for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly grant programs. For the 2016 filing season, the application period extends from May 1 through June 1, 2015.
A conference call is planned for interested applicants on May 5 to discuss the application process, as well as new provisions. The Grant Program Office has already invited current grantees to the conference call. We request the field’s assistance in getting this message out to prospective new grantees.
Application instruction packages are now available on IRS.gov for the 2016 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly grant programs. The application period extends from May 1 through June 1, 2015.
Interested parties may obtain an electronic copy of the following publications from http://IRS.gov.
· Publication 4671, VITA Grant Program Overview and Application Instructions
· Publication 1101, TCE Program Application Package and Guidelines for Managing a TCE Program
Although these publications are available now, interested applicants must wait until the announcements post on Grants.gov on May 1 to download the appropriate application. Information necessary for completion of the applications is available in Publication 4671 and 1101. Additional information is available on the VITA and TCE webpages.

The Grant Program Office will host a call to review the application process on May 5. Please plan to review the publication for the grant you are interested in prior to the call and formulate any questions not answered by the publication. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Registration is not required; however, lines are limited to 250 callers. For organizations planning to have more than one individual attend, please share a line. Access to the call begins 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.
