Since 1968, the Center for Literacy (CFL) has been unleashing the power of literacy to improve lives. Through a variety of programs and services that focus on building reading, writing, math, life, technology and work skills, CFL helps a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. CFL is the nation’s largest and Pennsylvania’s first community based nonprofit literacy provider. We currently seek a full time Grant Writer to join our staff of dedicated professionals.
Responsibilities:
The Grant Writer is responsible for helping advance the organization’s programs and development initiatives, and will be engaged in multiple projects at any one time. In addition to providing general department support, there are six main areas of responsibility:
• Research: identification of diverse funding opportunities
• Correspondence: writing exploratory letters, letters of intent, and solicitations
• Grant writing: responding to requests for proposals
• Document management: developing, managing, and coordinating collateral exchange
• Reporting: communicating, tracking, and managing grants
• Institutional donor cultivation: networking, planning, and developing appeals
The Grant Writer will receive intensive orientation and training, and immediately thereafter be assigned a portfolio of projects, including targeted research requests, program needs assessments, planning initiatives, and time-sensitive proposals.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 2 years experience in grant writing required, more years preferred
• Solid communication skills
• Comfortable with technology—Excel and Word skills are essential
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
• Ability to thoughtfully translate programmatic needs into grant content
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Flexible and adaptable to change with a strong willingness to learn
• Enthusiastic team player with a commitment to the organization’s mission
Candidates invited to an interview will be expected to share a portfolio of writing samples, including completed (but not necessarily funded) grants.
Reports to: Director of Development & Marketing
Job Classification: Regular, full-time, exempt
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm
