Grade Level Reading Week 2018
Posted by Campaign for Grade Level Reading on June 11, 2018
GLR Week in Philadelphia is designed to accelerate learning and strengthen the connections that exist within a growing network of 360+ communities in 43 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada. Building on the success of last year’s GLR Week in Denver, it is an excellent opportunity to discover opportunities for collaboration and replication across GLR community coalitions and reflect on the activities of local, state, and national funders that support early learning, early literacy and early school success. With our goal to “stay the course” on our efforts to move the needle and close gaps, we will build on last year’s theme to LIFT, LEARN and LEAD.
The event will take place in Philadelphia’s Logan Hotel located in the center of the city within walking distance of iconic Philadelphia attractions such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Academy of Natural Sciences.
This year, GLR Week has three distinct components:
Funder Huddle
Tuesday, July 24 at 11:30 a.m. – Thursday, July 26 at noon
The Funder Huddle will provide unique opportunities to enhance the multiple roles funders play in state and local grade-level reading communities. Diverse sessions led by funders for funders will include actionable tools and models that can be immediately replicated when you return to your communities. Participants will enjoy access to people, ideas and frameworks that challenge prevailing assumptions, illuminate opportunities to advance the work and inspire renewed commitment to succeeding. (Note: There are pre-conference sessions being held on Monday afternoon, July 23rd and Tuesday morning, July 24th before the opening plenary at 11:30 am.)
Community & State Leads Convening
Wednesday, July 25 at 8:30 a.m. – Thursday, July 26 at 5:00 p.m.
The Community & State Leads Convening will focus on the next phase of work for the GLR Network: deploying strategies to reach bigger outcomes, game-changing impact and more sustainable scale. This will include a deep dive into improvement science and networked learning, featuring some of the nation’s leading experts and an initial rollout of the new GLR Learning for Impact and Improvement System. The Convening will explore how we can access, analyze and use data to gain deeper insights, solve problems and drive impact.
Institutes
Wednesday July 25 at 5:30 p.m. – Friday, July 27 at noon
The Institutes at GLR Week, convened by Foundations, Inc., will dive deep into understanding how trauma-informed practice and character development impact children’s health, well-being and literacy. Designed with parents and practitioners in mind, participants will explore how character development education and trauma-informed practice can dramatically improve the chances of success for our most vulnerable children and families. Interactive sessions will demonstrate strategies and tools applicable in all settings where children live and learn— at home, in school, after school and during the summer.
GLR Week is designed to build on last year’s event in Denver and accelerate the learning and strengthen the connections that exist within a growing network of 360+ communities in 43 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada. It is an excellent opportunity to interact with local communities and leaders supporting early literacy and early school success.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
