Resources offered to build on Waiting For ‘Superman’ film

To further the dialogue and ignite public action to alleviate the nation’s education woes, America’s Promise Alliance has released a Grad Nation Facilitator Toolkit on how communities can best use the film Waiting for “Superman” to mobilize to end the dropout crisis.

The toolkit equips members of the community with the guidance to facilitate an action-oriented dialogue in their social, professional, and community networks. It consists of the integral components to hosting a successful screening of Waiting for “Superman” and engaging viewers to create powerful, cross-sector solutions.

Waiting for “Superman” takes a closer look at the intricate web of students, educators, parents and reformers and their interconnected roles in the crumbling public education system in America. The film puts a spotlight on the struggle to find lasting solutions to the challenges that stand to prevent children from following their dreams.

The documentary embraces the principle that quality teachers are the cornerstones of successful schools. Its message gives hope to those willing to join the growing movement to rebuild school systems as it features innovative approaches taken by education reformers and schools to reshape the culture of learning.

Also, a companion book for the documentary, entitled Waiting for “Superman”: How We Can Save America’s Failing Public Schools, is now available.  Each book includes a $15 gift card from DonorsChoose.org to use to help a classroom in need.
