Good Schools PA Building Their Youth Action Network

Hello!

This school year Good Schools Pennsylvania is launching two new and exciting programs to build our Youth Action Network: High School Action Grants and the Youth Advisory Board. These are tremendous student leadership opportunities – you or students you know just might want to think about applying for one of these!

The High School Action Grants will fund youth led initiatives across the state that are targeted at creating a fairer system of public education in our state. Each site will be granted awards of up to $1000. Teams will be composed of three or more students in grades 9-12, one adult advisor who is a faculty or staff member at the high school, and a representative from a partnering community organization. Our application deadline is November 24th.

The Youth Advisory Board will consist of 6-12 high school and college students from across the state. They will be involved in decision making regarding Good Schools Pennsylvania youth organizing strategies and projects, including the High School Action Grants; they will provide input or larger Campaign strategies; they will also offer insight and perspective into the platform of the Campaign. Applications must be sent in by November 1st, 2004.

You’ve participated in a Good Schools Pennsylvania event, so I know you have a lot to say about public school funding. I hope that you will take the next few steps to put your ideas into action, or help students you know pursue these opportunities. Please note that students who are selected to be on the Board will not be eligible for obtaining an Action Grant.
