GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM: SMALL FARMERS IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY
Thursday October 21, 2004
Little Rock, Arkansas
This one day pre-conference symposium is designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the many complex issues facing the world’s small farmers who are trying to survive in the current globalized economy. Participants will be presented with the facts and the reality of the global climate in which the Heifer organization works. Participants will also be given the opportunity to reflect on the challenges of this situation, consider how Heifer has been addressing these issues, and recommend new strategies to ensure that small farmers have a place in the global economy. An exciting group of speakers and panelists has been assembled: Dr. Desmond Jolly, Director of the Small Farm Program at the University of California at Davis, and Ms. Irene Hoffman, Chief of the Animal Production Service/Animal Production and Health Division of FAO, are the keynote speakers for the event.
