New Lesson Book on Global Sustainability from Facing the Future!
Engaging Students through Global Issues: Activity-Based Lessons and Action Opportunities
Facing the Future’s new activity-based lesson book for middle and high school teachers contains 40 lessons (including updated versions of current lessons and 20 new ones). This book is a companion to Facing the Future’s student textbooks. Each lesson offers service learning ideas and tools for students to take action in their local and global communities. The lesson plans include everything you need from start to finish: materials, timing, step-by-step instructions, assessment for both intermediate and advanced students, action project ideas, resources for further information, and reproducible handouts. Lessons also provide extension activities to explore issues further and to make writing, technology, math and art connections. Some of the global sustainability concepts addressed in the book include:
systems thinking
population growth
ecological footprint
carrying capacity
refugees and IDPs
food, water & energy resources
biodiversity
media literacy
global health
governance and taxes
poverty and equity
debt relief
microcredit
conflict & mediation
