Award Available for High School “Girls with Grit”
The Jill Melmed-Buzzeo Award is given to “Girls with Grit,” high school juniors or seniors who identify as female and possess certain characteristics.
They’ve overcome adversity with commendable resilience. They’ve given back to their community with admirable compassion. They’ve set ambitious goals for themselves and gone after them with incredible persistence. We recognize what they’ve achieved for themselves and help them along their desired path.
We are in a position to award two students in 2017. We provide:
> a $2,000 education award for tuition or college-related expenses
> a $300 travel stipend for campus visits or to attend educational opportunities
> free and individual tutoring on college entrance exams,
> mentoring support, and
> a peer sisterhood with preceding recipients for empathetic and pragmatic advice and an “elders” community who serves as built-in door-openers.
Deadline: March 1 for principal nomination; March 15 for student application
