Get Involved with Philadelphia’s After School Youth Development Network

Posted by on November 18, 2005

In 2004, Philadelphia Safe and Sound hosted the first meeting of Philadelphia’s After School Youth Development Network (ASYD). Since then, representatives of local after-school, positive youth development, and related programs have focused on projects and priorities as well as Network structure and membership. The ASYD Network goals are to1) Improve program quality, 2) Increase access to after-school programs, 3) Support school/community collaborations, 4) Create a continuum of support, and 5) Measure outcomes/impact.

There are currently two ways that you can get involved and MAKE YOUR VOICE(S) HEARD!

1. PEER NETWORKING GROUP
Philadelphia’s ASYD Network, in partnership with the OSTRC, is organizing an Out-of-School Time (OST) Peer Networking Group for direct-service staff (those who work directly with children). Members of the OST Peer Networking Group will attend regular meetings, explore timely topics, coordinate advocacy efforts, and become involved in similar efforts. To begin planning this effort, we are working with an Advisory Committee of direct-service staff. For more information, contact Nancy Peter at npeter@sp2.upenn.edu or (215) 898-0640.

2. CORE STANDARDS SURVEY
The Core Standards for Philadelphia’s Youth Programs were completed in October, 2001. Philadelphia’s ASYD Network is gathering information on their use and value. This will help identify areas of interest and opportunities for improvement and promotion. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete and submit The Core Standards Survey. If there is someone else in your organization to whom these questions are more relevant, please forward the survey to him or her. Click for the Core Standards Survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=440591373531

For more information about either opportunity, please contact me directly at the address below. For general information about Philadelphia’s After School Youth Development Network, contact Phillip Hammond at Philadelphia Safe and Sound: phammond@philasafesound.org or (215) 568-0620.
