Genre Arts Initiative
Posted by on July 01, 2013
The Genre Arts Initiative at Mission Incorporated offers workshops that are designed to create a greater appreciation for the arts in all its many forms. These workshops are offered throughout the year to schools, organizations and groups interested in having working artists teach courses, beginning to advanced, in the arts. The workshops offered by Genre Arts vary in artistic areas, ranging from theatre, music, design, visual arts, creative writing, and dance. Each of these programs uses exciting exercises to teach students to think creatively about the world around them, and culminates into some form of public exhibition with participants showcasing work done in the workshop.
Included in our list of workshops is a theatre based teen pregnancy prevention program called “It’s My Life” designed for students aged 14-18. We have held this workshop at Mediator Cyber High School and Kensington International Business.
In the fall, we will be offering an after school drama program held at our Germantown Avenue office. We are also looking for other organizations wanting to bring in outside artists to hold this program at their location.
