JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: GED Teacher/Youth Counselor
Program: Day Treatment/Out-of-School Youth
General Description of Position/Responsibilities
The GED teacher will work with youth who have been adjudicated delinquent for various offenses as well as other youth who have dropped out of school and/or are unemployed. Both are structured day-time programs that incorporate GED instruction, life skills education, case management including career advising, enrichment activities, and community services. Within the services, the GED teacher will work very closely with the Supervisor of the program in terms of continuity of care. This position has lots of freedom and room to be creative!
Duties:
● Teach GED/pre-college preparatory English, Reading, Social Studies and Math.
● Compile daily progress notes and monitor progress.
● Advise and tutor students specifically in areas such as academic challenges, student life, and career/education goals.
● Participate in team meetings.
● Assist with data collection and case records.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.
● Experience and knowledge of GED and teaching
● 2/3 years experience working with adolescents; familiarity with at-risk youth is a plus.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
