Reporting to the Education Coordinator of the E3 Center, this position will partner with co-teachers and case managers to deliver comprehensive GED and college readiness curriculum and projects in a variety of academic and supplemental subjects. In addition to developing and delivering classroom instruction in Spanish or English (as needed, this position requires team support in areas such as data entry, student-internship support, team planning meetings, student case consultations, facilitating new-student orientations, and planning/sharpening field trips and events. This position has a particular emphasis on delivering GED instruction in Spanish, but requires a high level of English proficiency as well in order to perform the main job functions.
Position Summary
Congreso’s Adult Education department provides GED and college-prep instruction for out of school youth from ages 17 to 21 and adults in the areas of Education, Employment, and Empowerment. The Adult Ed Instructor position is a key component of the educational portion of the program and plays an important role in student success at Congreso. This position will report to the Adult Academic Manager. The instructor will partner with the E3Center team to deliver comprehensive GED and college readiness curriculum and projects in a variety of academic and supplemental subjects, including Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Math. In addition to developing and delivering classroom instruction, this position assumes a role in areas such as instruction related data entry, student-internship support, team planning meetings, student case consultations, facilitating new-student orientations, and planning / chaperoning field trips and events.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive GED 2014 and College & Career Readiness (CCR) academic curriculum to out of school youth and adults.
- Utilize technology including Microsoft Office software, email, and web-based applications to deliver curriculum.
- Develop mastery of GED 2014 Exam materials and subject matter through research, data analysis, and professional development trainings.
- Develop mastery of GED 2014 testing and registration process and requirements.
- Assist students in gaining critical thinking skills, problem solving techniques, and proficiency in numeracy and literacy.
- Demonstrate instructional expertise in all of the key GED 2014 subject categories.
- Analyze aggregate and individual student performance data for TABE and GED 2014 Practice Exams in order to customize curriculum to students’ needs.
- Serve as coach and mentor to students regarding academic progress, life skills, internship success, professionalism, and pursuing post-secondary education / employment.
- Facilitate project-learning model for GED 2014, CCR and JRT curriculums, including design, implementation, and evaluation of cumulative student projects.
- Work with team members to evaluate student academic progress, identify solutions to students’ academic and social barriers, assess project performance, and participate on selection panel for student internship interviewing.
- Work diligently to achieve program outcomes as related to staff performance evaluation.
- Attend regular staff, team, divisional, and individual supervisory meetings, as scheduled.
- Participate in agency activities, quarterly meetings, and committees in order to share information that will promote the purpose and mission of Congreso.
- Perform any other duties and tasks such as coordinating field trips, graduation ceremonies, job fairs, etc., as required by the division.
Non-Essential Functions
1. Attend relevant workshops or join professional groups as necessary to maintain professional knowledge and licensure.
2. Adheres to Congreso’s security guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
3. Facilitates and attends relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.
4. Completes special projects specific to the function of the department or as needed for the department, as directed by Supervisor.
5. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
