Gardening for Butterflies
Take a tour of the Butterfly Garden on the grounds of the Horticulture Center to see the many different perennials and annuals which are butterfly appropriate in for Philadelphia. The session will cover host and nectar plants for larvae and adults; other needs like water and sun; and how butterfly gardening differs from regular gardening. Gardening in the city in small spaces and containers will also be discussed.
Doris Stahl
Doris is a horticulture educator with The Pennsylvania State University Cooperative Extension in Philadelphia County. She has eighteen years experience teaching horticulture programs as well as growing vegetables in community gardens in the city. Doris started gardening for butterflies seven years ago when she refurbished the Horticulture Center?s demonstration garden. She then created the new butterfly garden two years ago and has led efforts to teach gardeners about this specialized topic.
