FULL-TIME PREVENTION SPECIALIST
POSITION SUMMARY:
The COLOURS Organization, Inc., a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) is currently looking for an individual to fill the full-time position of Prevention Specialist.
The Prevention Specialist will implement HIV Testing, Counseling and Referral Services and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screenings. Ensure that all clients are linked to ambulatory/outpatient medical care, substance abuse treatment, behavioral health services and other identified supportive services. Ensure that all mandated reports are complete, accurate and submitted.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Actively recruit and engage clients to HIV antibody testing and STI screenings through outreach;
• Provide HIV antibody testing and STI screenings;
• Link clients to appropriate quality medical and social services to maintain and/or improve the physical and emotional health of clients who are infected with HIV;
• Link HIV-negative clients to appropriate quality social and/or medical services to maintain HIV-free status;
• Encourage the adoption of appropriate safer sexual behaviors and safer behavior associated with drug use;
• Adhere to OSHA guidelines, i.e., infection control, exposure control (blood borne pathogens and chemical hazards);
• Maintain appropriate documentation of services and prepare reports as directed by the management, agency policies and procedures;
• Provide individualized and group education presentation;
• Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
• Regional HIV Training and HIV Prevention Counseling certifications required;
• One to three years of prior experience in HIV prevention, risk reduction and/or social work;
• Familiar and comfortable with the targeted communities;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
• Demonstrated understanding of the cultural and ethnic diversity of sexual and gender minority people of color;
• Familiar with community resources and referral services;
• Willing to work full-time hours of 35 hours weekly during evenings (1pm-9pm), late nights (10pm-6am) and weekend hours. Flexibility is a must.
